Battery problems i think !

hi all, iv got a mk3 tdi, week before last when the tempetures dropped got in to start car in the morning and the dash light came on and it turned over very slowly, turned ignition off and tried again, car started, this happened the next morning too, now iv just noticed over the last couple of days when i put key in and turn the ign on to start there is a buzzing noise (i now know is coming from behind the dash ) only on for a few seconds then goes off, but all the needles move a little, but iv no interior light, no boot light, central lookings not working, i have plugged in to my cig socket one of those double sockets to run fone and sat nav, it has three lights on red , amber and green and there always on , but now its just on red and lite very dimly, the car starts fine, i was suspecting battery but now im not so sure, going to aire vally batteries in dewsbury after work to get battery tested, would the battery cause these problems and still start the car, i dread coming out in the moring wondering if it will be flat but so far its been ok !!!! any input much appreciated

if battery is not at fault id check all the earth points

 anywhere in particular, are there any not in view as such, are you talking in side car of under the bonnet, cheers axe

if the battery can be topped up, try that first if its low...

£1.50 for a bottle of de-ionised water could be a cheap fix

thought all car batteries were maintenance free now, i had to learn battery stuff for the forklift at work tother day, smells funny  
the main earths under the bonnet are pretty obvious, just follow the leads, the hidden one is under the batter tray, just clean them up anyway for good luck. There are more under dash that could be causing problems, again just look for studs welded to the chassis
