Turn indicators
« on: 25 February 2010, 18:50 »
Hello Chaps
Brand new to the forum, drive a 1990 MKII Gti 8 valve which I've had since 91 with 80k on the odometer.
Nearly went the journey last week for a scrappage scheme discount on a brand new Corsa when I thought " What am I doing here, replacing my baby with £8k worth of GM sh!te"
Anyway, need some help.
Driving home tonight I flashed someone to pull out. At the same time the green turn  indicator light  on the dash immediately went solid green, no flashing, and dull.
Now when I indicate the green light goes brighter but still stays solid continuously on and the indicators don't work.
Looking in the manual, any fault with bulbs etc should make the green light flash twice as quickly but says nothing about the light staying on continuously.
I've checked all the fuses.
Anyone able to help, I'm a technical no hoper

Usually, if the dash bulb flashes twice as fast, it means you have an indicator out, usually a bulb. I'm sorry to say, sounds like you have something more serious. I'm assuming you mean flashed your high beams?? Maybe a relay or a fuse

sounds like an issue with the hazard switch, since its a 1990 this could be built into the stalk if it has the hazard switch on top of the column?  If so, the fact it went after you flashed also supports the theory.  take off the lower ign housing trim (2 screws) and check all the plugs are fully in. if that doesnt help, get a new indicator stalk :)

Deffo seems like a dodgy stalk to me. Or sometimes loose earths can cause bulbs to stay illuminated

Mine was doing the same thing and it was a failed indicator relay. GSF ones turned out to be crap, but ECP do a Topran one which is okay - but it doesn't quick click like the original.
