Want to fit an Induction kit.......

Hey guys,

I have a standard, 1.8GL 8v, now my hours spent looking for a induction kit for my golf has had me come up short, all i seem to be able to find is the stupid paper filter..


But i want to fit something like ...


The main problem i see on my car is, my standard air box has 2 pipes coming from it... 1 leading directly to the TB, and the other leads underneth the TB somewhere and im guessing the MFA is also connected to the big box, a friend of mine has said that it will be fine to remove the top of the box take out the current paper filter and just connect a K&Ni Cone to the pipe that leads to the TB.

If i did that would it work ok? would it cause any loss in power?

i know its really boy racer style but i really want the Roar you get from them lovely cones, but i dont want to do it if its going to cause damage to my car in anyway.

ive looked everywhere, beleave me if it was as simple as me just buying an entire kit that is made for my car i would, but i just cannot find anything anywhere...

So what you lot think, wise to do what my friend suggested or not?

Save your money and forget the cone filter, a decent panel filter eg. K&N will give you more genuine gains and a drilled air box with a decent cold air intake pipe can give you the 'sporty roar' you require.

Cheers for the info, could you simplyfy that in terms of what you ment by sorting out the intake please?

What people recommend doing is modifying the original airbox by cutting a small piece of it underneath or drilling few holes, which is essentially the same thing - allowing more air to go in.

Thanks for the reply, just a small question thou, by drilling/modding your box to let more air in, isnt it going to confuse the MFA and give wrong air readings inthe long run?

Basically,it'll automatically adjust and compensate for any changes in air flow after a few miles run. It's all about getting as much cool dense air into the systrm as quickly and smoothly as possible.

they say you should smooth out the inside too dont they?
if inside the airbox itself has the spines jutting inwards....if ya get me

Forget the cones. I bought a Pipercross Viper induction kit, and want to sell it about 6 months. It makes my car feel like it's breathing sluggish and doesn't even fit correctly. I'll be re-fitting the bosch air box with a K&N / Pipercross panel filter.
