Had myself a remap today!
« on: 15 February 2010, 19:33 »
So, I have been researching remapping for a few months now.  It appears there are lots of new providers on the scene but I wanted to go to someone with a good reputation for the product they supply and also their customer service skills.  I looked thoroughly through the remapping sticky post on this forum and after lots of thought, I decided to go with Simon from e-maps. (www.e-maps.co.uk).
The price was good (£375 all in) and for this price, Simon came to my office!  I am based in East Sussex and Simon travelled down all the way from Birmingham.

After a quick cup of tea, Simon plugged in his laptop to check for any faults.  A couple of minor errors came up (not related to the engine, they were in relation to the central locking and the indicator) but after checking there was no actual fault, Simon cleared them off the system.
We then went for a quick test drive with Simon checking out the data on his laptop.  He wanted to check that the airflow meter was working correctly.  So, quick drive down the road, give it full throttle in second gear and immediately Simon could tell that all was working correctly.  My bog standard Golf Gti (08 plate, manual) was pushing out 205 BHP.

Back  to base so that Simon could then download the original map onto his laptop, I went back into work totally excited and looking forward to seeing Simon again! About an hour later, Simon tells me all is done.  Jump up, run out of office, go for test drive.
Gents, when I tell you that the difference in the car is awesome, it is an under estimation of the changes made.  The car was quick before, now it is a totally different beast.  It is quite simply amazing.

The same stretch of road in second gear and immediately, the BHP has increased to a mind blowing 262!  Second gear is amazing.  Third gear is frighteningly quick.  Fourth gear takes me to another dimension and in all honesty, I don’t have the road space or bottle to go for it flat out in fifth and sixth at the moment!

The engine sounds how you expect a REALLY fast car to sound when you boot it.  You just get pushed back into your seat like a rocket has been set off at the back of the car.

I can HIGHLY recommend Simon and his services.  He is totally professional and a true gentleman.  He has stated he would reverse the remap should I need it when I sell the car.  The problem is, I am never going to want to sell it now!
I can’t wait to get out in my car now.  It is so much fun.  It makes me feel like a teenager again and I have been smiling all the way home (after taking the long way round)!
Happy days.  Thanks Simon.

Are these dyno figures or 'off the top of your head' figures?

Only reason I ask is that I have never seen a standard TFSI 200 make any more than 240hp on a dyno with just a map (230/235 seems to be the usual from a stage 1) and 250+ is regarded as dreamers territory.

I am not being picky, just interested

According to a lot of tuners 240hp is the area in which the original fuel pump struggles, I discussed this at length recently with a well known VAG tuner and they agreed that 230-235 is what they normally see on their dyno from a stage 1 from REVO/APR etc...

I wasnt trying to start a dyno power debate, more interested in where the 260+ HP figure came from as the OP didnt state that the car went near a dyno. Hopefully it wasnt derived from one of those in car dyno gizmos!

Looks like the chap used the MAF figures to work out the power - its not 100% accurate but should give a good indication

Sorry to sound ignorant, I have no real idea about the tech stuff.  I will try to speak to Simon.  He is reputable, have a look at his website.  Also, other users on here have also used his services.

I tried the MAF figure method on a TFSI 200 last week, we were datalogging the boost and fuel pressure as it was hitting fuel cut on the road. We came up with 267hp from MAF figures and just 242 on the dyno (Stage 1 map with full decat milltek and evoms intake)

If figures dont worry you then its all good as it sounds like you are extremely pleased with your map. And thats whats more important, sounds like a great job was done!

There you go confusing me again!  As stated, will try to get Simon to respond.  I do know that the car feels like a rocket has been placed in the boot!
