Tailgate vinyl decal first aid

Damn it - while washing the car yesterday, I caught the black tailgate decal which goes around the rear window at just the wrong angle with the pressure washer. Little bits of it tore off. Most of it remains, but it looks a little tatty now.

I've looked into replacing it but it looks like a tricky job with the rear window having to come out. I know I'd be no good at doing this as it looks fiddly (plus the £50 or so for the decal itself)

Any ideas for patching up the existing decal? There is probably no more than about 4-5 sq cm missing. I'm not expecting a wonderful job - just something to make it a little less noticable. The car is grey which helps a little I guess.

You can get the decal for £30.00 ish. But Only get the OEM one as I am told the others (EBay) dont fit very well...

Try GPC they have a web site with a phone number... I had one fitted to my GTi couple of weeks ago when I got her resprayed...

I got mine from them, 100% perfect! get the version without washer and wiper holes, as its easy to make your own, allows for a more forgiving fitment, Pop the rear screen out, remove existing decal, and all remnants of the adhesive, spray the area to take the new decal with a very very weak solution of water and detergent, and apply the new decal to the wet tailgate, starting at the middle squeeze all the water out from under the decal, with a soft plastic spreader... refit the rear screen, make new washer/wiper holes by poking them with a hot soldering iron, rather than a knife that will damage the paint...
