Rear lights
« on: 14 February 2010, 22:24 »
I noticed whilst reversing the other day that my Mk 6 only has 1 reversing light and only 1 rear foglight too. Is that right?

I would expect that on a entry level Clio or a Corsa but a GTI? Or have I blown 2 bulbs already?

Come on VW....... you can do better than this. It looks naff too.

They only have one of each mate, in this country anyway, it's definately the same on the mk5 but i'm not sure about earlier models.
I totally agree they do look a bit poop!

One foglight is so you know if the driver is braking, or is a fur-lined, ocean going, fu*kwitt driving about with their fog lights on.
With one high power rear light, it's fairly obvious.

As for reversing lights...how many do you need to see?

Is this really an issue?

Hell, VWs have been like this for decades.

I think you'll find that virtually all cars only have a reversing light on one side, as someone else already pointed out, how many do you need to see? It's not as though you drive around with reversing lights on, so aesthetics is not an issue.

....maybe in the evening/at night (e.g.with a rear camera in use )  it can be helpful to get as much light as possible. :nerd:

With the MK V I had a couple of times people telling me one light was broken...

an old place i used to live we had this garage, and due to the narrow street it was always required to reverse into the space, and doing it in the dark was awkward because there was no light in the garage. inevitably the one reverse light on the car wasn't really bright enough to see, so i would often turn on the rear fog lamp too, although it did make the garage very red. but it was better than crashing into the back wall.

ive been told most reverse light circuits can cope with a second light added on - dunno how true this is, never tried it myself

The funny one is the static conering front fog lights had a few "hay mate one of your fog lights is broken"
