I test drove a Golf R last week on 19's with 25mm lower suspension than the GTI and no ACC - and found it to ride as well as my ED30 did.  The roads now are absolutely dreadful with pot holes everywhere, and to be honest I expected the 19's to offer a rough ride - but I was very very impressed at how soft it made the bumps feel.  I've specced ACC on mine, but if I hadn't, I wouldn't be at all be dissappointed.
Golf R... 3 door, DSG, Leather, Reflex Silver, Black 19" Talladega Wheels, ACC, Parking Sensors, RNS510 with Dynaudio, Reverse Camera, Luxury Pack, Cruise Control & Fiscon Bluetooth.

There's some 19" audi splits on ebay at the moment. Had some on my A3 and was'nt keen on them.

Thanks for the link. I really like those. Not sure about having to clean them though!! Must be a full time job!!
Some photos of BBS CH 19s

Thanks snoops, mags' car looks great but I've done the BBS thing now I reckon, mind you some black CHs would really float my boat. Having said that if I got a set of those and sold my 18'' BBS my wife wouldn't notice and I'd get away with it

The all black monzas look weird and the BBS ones look kinds small.  I do think my "factory" Monza 18s look enormous.... can't even contemplate anything larger without looking comical!

The BBSs do look a bit small from certain angles, but they fill the arches really well as they have a good width and offset. They looked perfect on my mk5 but less so on the mk6. They would probably look better on a NON GTI/GTD with the smaller bumpers.
As for the Detroits, well you either like them or you don't. Personally I love them, especially on grey and red cars. They're OEM yet a bit different, plus they're rare in the UK. They get a lot of attention considering I don't use the car much

Comfort I'm not so worried about. I've got an old banger with uprated (hard) suspension as my daily driver so the Golf will be an improvement on that even on 19s!!

I have the bbs splits sat in my garage with virtually new eagle f1 assyms on... they actually improve the ride imo. Alot less crashy over bumps!

There has been no difference in the ride quality going from 18's to 19's for me.

As above no difference in ride for me either,
Only slight problem when on full lock 235 profile tyre rubs very slightly but i can live with that, no probs with 225s
