Help, leak!
« on: 12 February 2010, 08:05 »
Looks like my car has now developed a leak.
It was too dark last night to see exactly where its coming from. But it looks like its leaking "fluid" from underneath the air filter and running towards the O/S headlight?

Any idea what this might be?

Which model golf? There's no coolant pipes under there normally. Might just be water splash sitting on the chassis leg. Do you have the plastic wheel arch liners fitted?

89' 8V Digi

Think I've sussed it.

It looks like oil is getting into the airbox somehow and this is leaking.
Must be spitting oil somewhere

Its probably oil & water vapour condensate from the crankcase breather system, just needs cleaning out occasionally. Happens more if you do short journeys esp in this cold weather. There is no oil supply to the airbox. The other possibility is that you have a non standard oil filter, the type that has to be oil soaked and some XS has dripped out. I'm sure its nothing serious there's just nothing oily or watery around there, I just double checked on mine.

A blocked breather can make it smoke, just take them all off and clean them out.
