I had a look over the car, but not with a fine tooth comb, as I has driven 80 miles buy it and just wanted to get home.  Car drives fine.  I certainly didn't think to look under the boot carpet, considering the car's age and from VW approved scheme.

I have a very fine attention to detail, so if I missed stuff others could too.  I'm still driving the car until the swop next week.  I don't feel inclined to disclose the car reg, but PM me if you have any concerns regarding a specific car you may be looking at!!

Fantastic result in the end for me, I'm so pleased.

tbf who really looks under the boot when buying a new car??? I have done 7k in mine and never looked under the carpet... or even sat in the back, or tried all the windows individually.. there is a million things that could go wrong tbh

But it wasn't a new car, was it? Anyway, I was thinking more about the paint issues. When I spend over £20,000 on something I tend to check it out pretty closely. Hell, I even check things over pretty closely when I pay £20 for them

And yes, I look under the boot carpet, and even look underneath at the floor pan, when I buy a car. New or used.

Most cars have damage of some form, I have been trying to find my brother a car for £5K and I can't find one that hasn't been damaged, must have looked over 12-15 cars so far in the past 3 months.

You got a lucky break there that you noticed so quickly and not 6 months down the line as they probably would have denied at it that point saying you had fixed it.

Hmm.. so VW classed this car (and still do.. as they will sell it to someone else) an "approved used car"

Fantastic result... but then again so it should be.  The dealer was probably crapping him/herself as you could have had grounds for a major lawsuit against them for selling something that could have been very dangerous.

Clearly you're very happy now and wouldn't consider going to trading standards.... which cynically speaking is the result the dealer also wanted....

No because they'll have the same problem with the next owner. They'll either punt it off to auction or put it in with the scrappage cars for collection by the breakers yards with all it's ID removed.
