Broken Door Latch
« on: 11 February 2010, 15:20 »
Now then

Ive just had the clifford guy round to install the new alarm system, everything works just fine, until... he leaves

Anyway i was testing the central locking as had problems with it before, and didnt want to put the door card on until i was happy. so..

Close door...lock...unlock..open door......... yay it works

close door...lock...unlock...door stuck, hmm is the locking lever not up fully..

climb throught he passengers door.. get my hand inside the door to push the lever all the way up, yep its up, try opening the door from the inside...... still nothing

ok, WTF is going on, i cannot open the door from inside or outside the car, the lever goes back down when the handles are pulled.

So i think the latch has broken

how the hell do i open the door to replace the latch..

please help

Cheers

its not the alarm or actuators, as i have disengaged them from the latch and still wont come open, i have tried holding the pin up while opening from inside and out still nothing but it must be coming loose as the door doesnt sit at flush as it did when fully closed so hopefully it will work loose

no the actuators were already there, it was just a alarm upgrade, previous one was nearly 20 years old :S

Hmmm, could be the actual lock mech in the door needing to be replaced, could be old and tired and pure conincidence its failed now! not sure how you are going to get the door open now though!......

My passenger door is exactly the same but it only goes wrong sometimes, does not matter if the pin is up or down. I do not have central locking though.

If I push the pin up and down and wiggle the key in the lock in between then it eventually opens for me.
Could be a completely unrelated problem but that is the only way I can get any response on the inside or outside handle

UPDATE:

Managed to get the door open by sliding bendy metal down the side of the door then it opened from using the inside handle, so thats where we are, i have ordered 2 new gold latches so hopefully that will sort it
