Upgrading OEM alarm - anyone think it's worth doing?

 Having just bought a GTI I'm wondering whether it's worth upgrading the OEM alarm. Having checked though it's already listed as a CAT1 by Thatchams so it seems pretty decent anyway.

 Has anyone upgraded/considered upgrading theirs?

if you do decide to get an upgrade you will have to have a canbus alarm fitted as a standard alarm will not work on it
the advantage of most canbus alarms is they use the original vw remote

 Thanks for the info - that limits options a little. The main additional features I'm considering are "text alert" & "battery backup" for the siren.

 Apparently the OEM system already has a tilt sensor & obviously interior sensors. I'm also considering just addin a stand alone text alert system, Clifford do one that's suitable for Canbus

it does not limit you you can still add the text alert amongst other things

Not much point in my opinion.

If someone wants to take your car from you then they'll just break into your house and take the keys.

In terms of stopping people from robbing stuff out of it, I'm not sure the alarm is much use because people don't take any notice of alarms any more.

If it were me i'd be spending the cash on some security laminate for windows.

Yes I've already thought about this...costs around £150 for "security film" so not a particularly expensive option, my only concern is if the film deterotiates over time & looks like cr*p

Trust me, (me and the neighbours have had first hand experience of this) If someone takes your battery out the alarm goes off for a LONG time lol
