personally i find the tartan pattern on the cloth pure retro, and chavvy at the same time and I love it. if it was the same price for cloth and leather i would still choose cloth.

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

The tartain is classic GTI and looks great, but the leather for me is proper lush and ties in an already fantastic interior/dash with the leather finishing it off beautifully.

If i was buying secondhand and it seems to be what you started the thread out with.
GTI i would look for cloth.
GTD i would look for cloth (I like it better than the GTIs as its like the series 2 Mk1s in colours)
R i would look for leather.

Alcantara i hate the stuff. It loves oil and greese and is not that long lasting you just have to look at some 10 year old cars with it.

Anyone else go look at the cloth/leather samples on there dealers wall and notice how much thicker the mk6 weave is compared to the mk5.

Leather for me all the way, adds that bit more class to the interior.

Disagree. I had a 7yr old type r and the alacantra looked like new.

Perhaps Honda is better than VW at this?

anyway, look at most motorsports seats, alacantra all the way!!
