RCD 510 Ipod Connection
« on: 08 February 2010, 14:19 »
Gentlemen,

Apologies in advance if this has been covered but I can't seem to find an exact answer.

I'm collecting my car at the end of the week and the sales guy (who has admitted limited knowledge on this issue) is suggesting that the Ipod can be connected without any issue use the MDI - all I need to do is buy an AUX cable to attach to my ipod which goes via the headphone socket.

Can anyone confirm if it's as simple as this, or would you recommend purchasing the official Ipod cable?

Thanks in advance....

CF

You don't need to buy anything. An iPod cable should be supplied as part of the package, allowing you to connect your iPod to the port inside the armrest The cable uses the multi-pin connector on the iPod, not the earphone socket. The cable is a dealer-supplied part - insist on this!!

Apologies - didn't realise you are in HK! Over here (UK) iPod cable should be supplied FOC as part of the RCD510.

There is no headphone socket on the RCD510. You connect the cable from the MDI which is situated in the armrest.

If the lead doesn't come free of charge in HK then you need to order part no 000 051 446 C

OP is referring to the headphone socket on the iPod.

To clarify, don't don't don't settle for connecting your ipod to the rcd510 via the headphone socket. Frankly that would be a **** solution. You would still have to use the ipod to control music which would be dangerous and old fashioned.

The ipod cable mentioned above will allow you to control the ipod from your rcd510 touch screen and also from your MFSW.

It should cost less than 200HKD, prob even cheaper since stuff in HK usually cheaper than here, ie should be an easy point to negotiate with your dealer to give it to you for free. Good luck :)

Thanks KL.....

I'm being told it's HK$520....which seems hideous for a cable (approximately 40squid).

Any ideas how much this part costs in the UK to buy separately?

Cheers

I think they originally said £15, before they decided just to throw it in on request.
