Popped down to the breakers today, theyve just received another mk2 so i went about pillaging as much as i could. It was however 3 cars up (well, there was a Transit on the bottom so a bit higher!) so i couldnt get everything in fear of falling off  :lipsrsealed:

All this for a tenner!

Got a new slam panel as the lower section (where the grill clips into) is a bit distorted. Plus there's 3 bolts missing so the headlights wobble... needless to say i picked up the full set. Also picked up new headlight mounting bolts, ECU cover and full set of clips (N/A from the dealers now) strut top covers, wiper arm bracket cover etc etc

Slam panel will be getting a clean-up and respray in satin black in due course.

Cleaned up the ECU cover (and my scuttle cover which has been lurking in the garage) with soapy water and some silicon spray

Also got me Dremmel out and cleaned the scuttle cover clips:

Fitted what i could earlier, unbeknown to me the mk2 strut top covers are a bit loose on the mk3 top mounts  Also changed the blue cable ties for orange ones...

Before:

After:

The 'to do' list:

-Paint and fit new slam panel, so i can fit my replacement grill (quad lamp, red stripe, badged)
-Repair front bumper
-Paint inlet manifold and obtain engine cover plate
-Finish sleeving conduit over the remaining cables, not much left now.
-Bodge-up a heat shield for the cone filter

Lucky find as mk2's are getting rarer in the scrappies. Found a beauty about a year ago 32k 3dr driver could've eaten off the bottom of it. By the time I'd been to the office and back to get it down their d!ckhead crane driver had dropped a volvo s40 on it  So I pillaged all I could from that.

Aside from that looking cool Chris, I've made heat shields in the past so if you need any info, you seem pretty handy though

ive never seen a mk1 in a scrappy, there are 2 mk2's in my local scrappy now although 1 has been there for months, so is pretty much pillaged to death.

on the other hand though, there are around 6 mk3s, plus another (VR6) which seems too good to break, its an MOT fail with very little wrong with it.....

My top tip is ceral boxes  Use that to mock up before commiting to ally. There are various pick up points to bolt it to securely.
I ended up boxing in the bit to the to the headlight. Unfortunately I don't have any pics but will try and get some. I'll be making a new one when I drop the ABF in as I have a similar setup to yours (cone K&N). Should've kept the one off my mk3 but a it got squished during tear down.
