ED30 coming out of warranty...advise please
« on: 07 February 2010, 10:02 »
Morning Chaps and trust all are well,

We have had wifey's Ed30 a year now (bl##dy hell where did that go) and next month it will be out of warranty.

With this in mind any advise, experiences of issues that may need to be brung up would be appreciated.

The car has not missed a beat and has only been into the garage for a service in its 12 months and 7k on our ownership.

My list at the mo is....

1. Electric window switches on drivers sometimes do not light up.
2. Drivers door seal whistle's in the wind sometimes.
3. I have had this metalic rattle on the very odd occassion at slow/iddle speed.
4. White worm on centre capps

Any other points to raise or know issue's???????

Many thanks

I had my drivers side door seal replaced under warranty for a whistling noise.  I replaced the centre caps myself soon after I got the car as didn't realise they were warranty items at the time, doh!  They are quite cheap anyway from eBay or VW.

Other things I had done were:
New A/C system as the original one packed up and would only blow hot air.
A rear wiper motor and stalk as the wiper had a mind of its own and would start working by itself and would only stop by turning the engine off.
New passenger door lock assembly as the door wouldn't unlock.
3 wheels replaced for white worm

LoL .. lets not start another thread on that

If manual, you should be OK on the gearbox side if your car has'nt been remapped.

Other common problems I've heard of are :-

1.  Steering Racks (Creaking & Groaning)
2.  Leaks from the rear hatch seal resulting in wet boot well
3.  Condensation in top rear brake lights
4.  DV's failing

Ive had this but only happens when one of the other windows is slightly open.

pitch3110,

My ED30 is just coming out of Warranty too - unfortunately mileage driven - not age

Anyway - here's what I've had done:

1 - Sticky Boot opener (wouldn't go back flush) - replaced with new mechanism.
2 - Air Con wouldn't go cold - saw this earlier on this post - New compressor.  Could be an issue - make sure yours is getting proper cold.
3 - About your mettalic rattle - make sure this isn't your Cambelt as I've just had mine replaced under warranty - sounds like a bird chirping when you start up, less noticible when warm (check on this forum for Churping sound)
4 - Lastly, sounds daft, but the Sh1tty Dunlop Sportmaxx I had on from new wore on the inside rears.  I replaced them all round anyway, but I'm sure I saw on here something about someone getting a Warranty replacement?

Good luck
