Whatever happened to the 5-6 year cycle between re-designs?  I just got my Mk6 and their planning a thorough revamp for release in 2 1/2 years time!  Oh well...

I hope that the Golf does get shorter front overhangs...

Goverment CO2 and everything is moving at a faster speed nowadays VW has had to adopt Japanese time scales.
I expect the engine range will be a little different to that and involve alot more hybrids to reduce CO2 output.
As they codeveloped a 1.6 twin charger unit when they developed the 1.4 i thought they may start intorducing it by the mk7 unless they canned it.

The mk5 gold was released in 2004 - so actually it is an 8 year cycle.  The mk6 is a facelift / improvement on the mk5 but the nuts and bolts underneath are the same.  The mk7 is supposed to be an 'all new' car.

The GTI with an 220BHP? Doesn't sound mutch but I also read somewhere that it'll be a lighter car too.

Also re a 5 pot engine - nah doubt they'd ever put something like that into a Golf again, suspect also that would overshaddow any RS3 that was brought out. So the Golf R would slot perfect under an RS but about the same as the S3.

But will no doubt change right up to the time it's released. But if they put up the prices again in time foe for the mk7..... ouch!!!!
I think I'll get an RS3 when they come out.

To be honest I think the engine line up is pure speculation.  They are probably assuming that since mk5 to mk6 power increase was 10 bhp the same will be true mk6 to mk7.  I can see where they are coming from but its still finger in the air stuff.

The other thing that struck me is if a 1.4TSI can generate 160 bhp, what would be the point in offering a 2.0TSI (FSI surely not TSI?!) for only another 20 bhp and a lot more carbons / fuel consumption?  Thats why I don't believe that part of the article.

because the 160bhp is as flat as a pancake when caught off boost - fine if you like stiring the engine, but plenty of folk complaining about lack of performance and more complaining about their mpg.

Think the numbers are a bit in the air though - whilst a lot of the diesels are relatively new i can't see them keeping the power levels the same, not with the new Focus looming and that has some good engine technology apparently. Pity the interior is awful.

I cant believe those figures are correct. Why would anyone buy a GTI ?

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.
