mk6 GTI or MK5 R32???????????
« on: 04 February 2010, 17:02 »
I simply cannot decide........please help!!!!!! i LOVE the MK6 GTI but feel its a tad overpriced at the mo......Yet i have always loved the R32.....I know its thirsty....and expensive to tax, but that V6 and 4wd has to be a price worth paying????? It wont be a daily distance driver....just a short commute and FUN at weekends.........what would you do????? And REALISTICALLY what mpg is obtainable from a reasonably driven R32?????? I KNOW this is a GTI forum but i HAVE to know.....

i use to average 18-20 mpg off my Mk5 R32 great car, great noise and now at a good price aswell,

my advice get one for a couple of years, (shouldnt lose too much money on it), sell it private and get a Gti when the prices have dropped :smug: :smug:

I had the MK5 R32 before the new GTI came along. What I miss most is the exhaust note and the 4wd. I used to average 27.5mpg on my daily commute which is 50km turn-return trip. On longer trips (urban) 33mpg. Great car, great fun but I would still pick the new GTI any day. Refined interior, slick looks, good mpg etc. etc.

I agree the Mk6 GTI is the better car to live with due to better interior, nicer looks, etc.  however if I were in the market now, I couldn't hack the 6mth wait for a new car.  Personally I reckon you're better off with a nice well specced R32 with sat nav and leather and well over 5k saved in your back pocket!!

I recently sold my MK5 R32. Awesome all-round car but if i'm perfectly honest you could get something more fun as a weekend toy. Not that it isn't a capable motor but you have to drive like a complete plank to get anywhere near the limits of the car and is very comfy as a long distance tourer. Autobahn machine. Maybe take a look at 2.0 turbo scirocco.. or lotus exige if you're brave enough

What he said no question. I would not go through this again.

Golf 6 just because of the interior ... and cars are always better being newer ... and did you check out that rear camera from the VW badge ... that's just too cool.

I would disagree with this myself. The last of the line models are often best as they have ironed out all the design and production faults by then.
