help with a flat spot !
« on: 02 February 2010, 20:15 »

Have a flat spot at about 4500rpm, its driving me nuts !
1.8mk2 gti, k-jetronic injection system, 8 valve. Tried a few things already, new HT leads, plugs, removed and cleaned the airbox and all the  "moving bits" (very carefully). I have not tried swaping out the coil, or checked the injectors. Also (not sure if its related) I had the injection system checked and tweeked (as the car was running very rich), and it made quite a difference to the MPG, but it would appear that the car had reverted back (slowly) to running rich, without touching a thing under the bonnet !!

Did you check the Vac hoses to the distributor?  Check for leaks.  Also check the distributor cap, check for signs of build up on the contacts, cheap caps dont help with running.

I should have said that the engine has just been rebuilt, and all the pipe work has been replaced, air, coolant, etc.. I'll check them again all the same, to be sure. I have my doubts about the injectors, as they are years old, and were about the only thing not replaced. Regarding the distro cap and rotor arm, both were also replaced, but were NOT VW parts....

Still at a loss, checked all ther vac hoses, and they are spot on....any thoughts on the injectors ? and where can i buy a set (I would be willing to change them, simply because they must be a bout 15 years old)
