Suspension advice - mk2 VR6
« on: 01 February 2010, 23:30 »
how do.

I need to source a suspension set-up for a mk2 with a VR6 engine, any advice on a shocks/springs arrangement (i.e. not coilovers) which can take the the weight of the VR lump, plus lower between 40 - 60mm and not cost more than 300 quid?

Needs to be refined enough for normal road use, so i've ruled out cheap ebay coilover kits

Thanks guys

I don't think a semi will give the same results

Weitec kit would be my choice.

nice one guys. mk2 top mounts are interchangable with corrado struts i take it?

the other route is to buy just front fk coilovers as the current rear coilovers are fine. any places selling just the fronts?

scrap that idea, driving it home this evening it desperately needs a kit with more give, coilovers are too harsh for my liking!! doing 60mph feels like 80mph

with the corrado kit just make sure you get the front upper spring plates to match, as they're different to VR ones. The VR uses a different top mount/bearing setup see. oh and depending on the age of them there are 2 diameters of spring, so spring plate is different. so measure up and let us know, or compare to your mk2 ones. early = mk2 size, later = bigger

can't you just get a normal mk2 coilover set up and then fit heavier front springs?

Yep, if you can find someone to sel you the correct poundage springs.

Problem is you need to find out what the same coil manufacturer is using for the coils you have bought, and then upgrade these to the Mk3 rated items.

Motosport level coilovers can be custom built in this way but cost $
