wobbly front end
« on: 30 July 2003, 13:06 »
Worrying problem, sometimes when accelerating the car feels like the engine is trying to flip round and pulls to the left and then back the other way when I back off. I am going to replace a u/s front engine mount but this is normally gives a vertical movement.

Anyone had this before (have had a look at all the other mounts, shock mounts etc and all the suspension bushes are new, all seems fine).
cheers

When you say all the suspension bushes do you mean the Wishbone bushes too?, sounds like a suspension or a tracking issue or maybe a brake binding.  Other things to consider are worn driveshafts and cv joints

new wishbones, bushes, balljoints and roll bar ends (all mot). its not the brakes, tracking is parallel as I checked it after rebuild. thinking could be CV as something has started to sound a bit crunchy when turning. It only does it every now and then too.
have had over 40 cars and used to be a mechanic and have never experienced this feeling (except in my old overboosted saab99 turbo, but that's a different story!) its a bit spooky.

I had handling problems on my first mk2 when pushed hard into corners, felt like the over steer you get on rear wheel drive cars, also it used to follow tar bands and grooves in the road (tram lining ?) cured the problem simply by putting new decent tyres (standard size rims and tyres).
