Mk2 1989 Golf 1.8t Conversion (Electrical Gremlims)
« on: 31 January 2010, 21:17 »
Hi all, just in the middle of my conversion for a 1989 Gti (Digifant) to 1.8t (AGU) with QPeng Loom (should have it next week).

I had disconnected the fuse box and removed it and looms to the engine bay to spray it.  I have now reinstated the looms and the fuse box and have the following problems.  I had numbered all the individual connections and connected these back as before.

I have reconnected all the earths and cleaned all the connections also to the battery, body beside the battery, under drivers side and to the right of the drivers side (bolted connection)

When I refitted the clocks (one with white and black connectors) nothing works on it, the MFA does not come on, the oil light etc, headlight (blue light) indicator lights.  The battery light also stays on even when the key is removed. (it illuminate brighter when the ignition is on)

Also the alternator (mk4 - AGU) has two wires coming from it (one blue which i have connected to the original blue wire on the old loom for the battery light) & a brown wire, (I pressume this is an earth?).

The original digifant loom (ECU), has been removed, and QPENG loom has to be installed, would this affect this.

Am I missing something?? Please help

Shouldn't that second wire for the alternator be connected to the starter motor? I believe the alternator earths itself. It's usually a black or red wire (thick cable).

Yep, I have connected the heavy red cable to the starter.  the AGU engine alternator, has 1 heavy wire and one plug in connector with two wires, (small ones) one blue and one brown.

When i did my 20v you only need the blue wire from the alternator for the battery light and the main 12v feed to the starter.

look for a spare brown/.white wire with a spade on it behind the dash, this should run to another brown/white wire which earths to the head. you can just earth this to the earth claw above the fusebox if you want. if you have removed the engine loom that would explain it as its bundled in with that.

Cheers rubjonny

Will try this on the weekend, hopefully it will sort it, I also noted that I have only four wires to the ignition barrell (1989 Golf CE1 wires), I must post a pic tomorrow night of this, I hope i'm not missing a wire here, or have the sequence wrong.

My Qpeng Loom, Downpipe, ECU and Map have arrived.

All i am waiting on now is the new fuel pump, should have this for the weekend also. (got a bosch one, got one from GSF and it was crap, sent it back).

New ECU and MAP Sensor, must find somewhere nice to mount the MAP sensor.

Here is a pic of the loom, ECU, MAP and new downpipe.

Does anyone know the part number for the AGU Code Lamda Sensor, here is the connection 4 wire. (199 AGU Engine)

Found that pesky wire and earthed it to the point just like you said, everthing works now again cheers.

The MFA is still not working though, will worry about this later, maybe it's just FUBAR.

Must have been when I removed the Digifant loom, this earth had no where to go.

One hurdle down anyway.
