Noob wanting to get a remap

Hi

As title says, i didn't know much about them till joining the forum and i would like to know a few
things about them if that's ok.
Had my 08 mkv gti for 11 months now and need more power Its a dsg also if that makes any difference.
I have heard a few diffident company's mentioned, and i gather a stage 1 remap is £500-600?

ok so firstly

1. Is it worth getting done?

2. I still have factory warranty, would this void it?

3. How much would this add to my insurance as a %?

4. Does this put ppl off when you come to sell it on, or trade it in?

5. What company to get to do the job?

6. does it knacker your car in anyway?

Hi mate.

1. Definitely
2. If your car has a problem associated with the remap then yes.
3. Totally depends on your insurance details. Some people don't mention it.
4. Yes normally, again, some people don't mention it or put it back to 'standard'.
5. Various, Revo are very well regarded for VAG cars.
6. Not really but you'll probably get more opinions on that. If you look after it and run it on good juice, all it will do is unlock the hidden performance that manufacturers can't unleash.

My MK5 was remapped by R-Tech and they are considerably cheaper than an Revo, Bluefin map etc. For some reason MK5 owners seem to blindly go to Revo or Bluefin for a remap but I've had my MK5 with an R-Tech remap for over a year now and not had any problems what so ever and got excellent power gains. Its worth speaking them and getting a price, they are also forum sponsors so mention to them your on the forum

My main concern is the insurance, it is due soon and i got a quote for £1700 for my
standard gti, but i try ed it with a 10-25% bhp remap last night n it came to £3300  , with only
3 company's willing to offer a quote on a comparison site.

Im not sure about doing it without telling the insurance because if the worse did happen
i take it i wouldn't be insured if they found out?

clint  Dont re-map your car just for a bit more speed, its not worth it IMO. Keep it standard, fast enough mate

Don't use those crappy comparison website details. You'll just get nagged from loads of companies.

Either stump up or wait until your policy runs out and reinsure with another company that specialises in modified cars.

I have to admit I used a comparison site once, and then got phoned back by some company who would list and recommend several companies, passing me off to them, the did find my Sky Insurance who are now my brokers and I don't do at all badly from them, the insurrance (for both my mk2 & mk5) are underwritten by Chaucer and all they seem to want is a list of mods, not been hit with any extras from them on that (yet) but I don't have a remap (yet).
