finally sorted!!
« on: 26 October 2004, 21:43 »
well..my car has been out of my hands now for nearly a week..problems have been plentiful with it, but hopefully it better now!! :D
well..began havin probs with the car wen it started losin power for some unknown reason. got told alot of things , but nothing worked. apparently it was faulty on 2 sensors..this causing the cut out. have had my spark plugs changed, split leads replaced, new rotor arm put on and dizzy cap renewed. ;)this all for good measure like!
thing is..there still a prob with my exhaust..but i had to take the car out of the garage..as i couldnt get to work properley with out it :( ..but prob now is that wen i accelerate..and the car reaches 3000rpm, or slightly before, you can feel that its not got full power. have been told that this is something to do with the fact that i had a fss exhaust fitted..and it not been done right? something to do with the cat?..have been told to get a lampa sensor. is this correct?..i trust the guy thats doin my car..but wanna check this info out before i take it back to him..could ya pls let me know if this sounds like it has any truth in it at all? :)

Rings true to me. But ya dont say what happens after 3000rpm or if it actually goes past that.
Exhaust system fitting doesnt really matter that much, unless there are leaks. If a wrong sized pipe has been used or the wrong Back box that would have an effect.
The Lambda sensor is in the exhaust system, to take readings of the gases to send back to the ECU.

So has a ring of truth but need some more info from ya. Like what is this guy actually proposing to do?

That sounds like the exact same problem I have. gets to 4000rpm and fels like the car is struggling to go through the rev range and becomes hesitant. Check my post on needs help at wits end. Ive repplaced loads of stuff.

Was going to replace the lambda sensor next as according to diagnostic report I have a lazy oxygen sensor. Could this be it????

ok it like this..if im driving the car and "put my foot down", as the needle starts goin past 2500 revs and hitting 3000 the car starts juddering..and you can hear the exhaust poppin,  the power is not fully there, you can feel it..its like its missing.
have been readin up on the lambda sensor..and im sure this is what it is..
the car does go past 3000, it will go to redline, however it doesnt sound too nice. if u sit stationary in the car and gently rev the engine..it will go past 3000 with no popping off, but anyother time it wont. do you think this has been caused by the exhaust bein changed?

Could well be. If the exhaust is wrong in someway then it can cause pressure fluctuations and maybe give false readings to the lambda sensor.

Just guessing here, but sounds as if the guy could be right. So get it done and sue him if not! ;D

Ill give the lambda sensor a go then. I had a problem where the oil was overfilled by some monkey at a garage and it fouled up the throttle body so maybe its got to the lambda sensor as well and messed it up.

How easy is it to replace a lambda sensor?? Also could a damaged cat cause the same prob????
