Hey all! Im back! + a quick question.
« on: 24 January 2010, 09:58 »
Ok.. as some of you probably know, i have always had golfs and.. Lots of em' !  Sadly i thought i would go for something else for a change,  I had a toyota celica, again,  and now an accord auto (dont ask)  but... as you can probably imagine,  it just aint the same,  so today i will be picking up a 1997 Black MK3 16V GTI 3dr!!  YAY  Its nothing special, needs a bit of work doing and mot etc... it was far to good to let some on rip it to bits for parts so i put in my offer and its now mine to get it back up and running for the summer.

Im sure it wont be a problem, needs a heater matrix (bypassed),  o/s/f window motor, a good service,  little welding on rear floor pan,  and maybe front brakes,  they are brand new but very pitted now as its been sat in a garage for 8 months.

Its got a missfire when accelerating hard,  probably due to being sat for so long,  got a 44 mile drive home today so i will see how she goes after that.

Anyway, here is my question, it has recaro seats in it,  never seen them before in a MK3 golf, Were they a factory option or something?  they are mighty fine to sit in thats for sure

Sweet, they are in perfect condition too!  i didnt think they would feel any diffrent to sit in but they sure give more support.

I have got her with me now, made it home 44 miles! lol  Seems the missfire was just down to manky plugs/leads, i cleaned everything up and its spot on now,  but i have another question...!  Never had a valver before,  the top end seems very rattly and noisy, A bit of a tappityness but mainly clattery rattle noise,  Sounds like normal top end clatter but as i dont know the ABF top end very well i thought it would be best if i check, just incase its something thats known to be a problem

Hi
How old is the engine?
When are you planning to change the oil and oil filter?

Nice find, the Recaros are a good find. I know they also did some with just plain black upholstery, instead of the pattern found on yours. Think they are rarer?

Id say give it a oil and filter change using a genuine filter and syntha silver 10/40 and all should be good.
