Heater Matrix exploded or not???

Steam started to comeout the vents - and teh temp went up on the car. refilled with water etc adn same thing happened.

bypassed the matrix by joining the pipes in the engine bay got the car home.

now my question is after having taken out the old matrix and running water through it it does nto seem to be leaking form anywhere - so does this mean that it is ok and does not need changing and that i have a problem elsewhere....

help much appreciated as my golf is sitting in my garage with no dash etc adn i do not want to swap over another matrix if that is not the problem.

running water through it may not show up a pinhole leak. needs to be under pressure. Usually when a heater matrix goes you get a sickining sweet smeel of hot anti-freeze in the car and it will soak the under side of the carpets down. Steam coming from the vents sure sounds like a matrix though.  good luck with it.

Try doing an Audi 80 - thats even worse

Easiest one I have ever done is the mk1 Golf, remove cap, 2 jubilee clips and pipes and out it slides Why on earth did they go away from that idea and bury the damn thing

So we would take them to the stealer ship. lol. same reason they bury the spark plugs and make auto box's that you can't check the fluid level in. lol.
