dsg trouble
« on: 23 January 2010, 14:56 »
Hi

I have a 08 golf gti dsg which i bought early last year, in September time last year i noticed when i was in 'd' accelerating from junctions it wasn't changing smoothly between 1-2 2-3, it was jerking pretty bad sometime, this only happened a handful of times a month tho, never the less i booked it in at vw.

I was told it needed a new metertronics unit, 2 weeks later when i went to collect the car they told me they had put a brand new dsg gearbox in :-).

Now 3 months on the exact same problem is happening again, its not as server as last time, but the change is not smooth as it should be, again its only happening a handful of times a month.

So i have booked it in again for next week, after having a brand new gearbox already put in tho i can't believe i am still experiencing problems, and will the same happen again after it goes bk this time.

My warranty is due to run out in may, because they have put a new dsg gearbox in already is that covered for a certain period of time even if my manufactures warranty has run out? if so how long?

I do love the dsg gearbox but with all the problems i may have to go bk to manual :-(

Did they actually change the mechatronics unit??, as i would guess they wouldnt of replaced that , just the dsg box itself.

Mechatronics unit is nearly £1000 on its own, so unlikely they would of changed it unless it comes complete with the unit as a total assembly.

Worth asking the dealership Mechanic

I will ask when i take it back this week, when i took it last time tho they said the problem was the mechatronics and when they said they had replaced the whole gearbox i just assumed that was changed also.
is this problem likely to persist after it goes bk again, because even tho i love it when it works, all the hasstle of taking it in every few months and my warranty running out soon is getting to me.

Its not very common to be honest, there have been a handleful of faulty mechatronics units, but its definatly not a repeating item that goes regually. I know of two dsg cars thats got problems, but they had their gearbox's reflashed with a dsg Revo remap, and now the dealers wont replace it due to aftermarket mods.

im sure if they changed the whole dsg box they would have done the mech unit at the same time - be daft not too

how long ago did you have the dsg box changed - they may well have replaced it with the one of the faulty units as seen in this recall notice by VW UK :

http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/searches/expand.asp?uniqueID=111DF9E9052CE4BF80257650002F0164&freeText=Blank&tx=

as your in warranty you should be fine
