pillock mushed into my golf. ideas on claiming
« on: 22 January 2010, 12:27 »
Alreet there, Some pillock decided to try and race me off the lights  in a fiat multipla full of his kids.

i didn't bite, and he trundled off and proceeded to not look in his mirrors, not realise that if i was not in front of him or behind him that i've not teleported to my destination.  And pulled into my lane and whacked the car on the mirror, front wing and bumper. and continued to drive off.  I overtook him and made him stop. Jumped out the car with my best angry face on. with a plan to be less than christian. (mrs is up the duff and he drove into us.) his explanation to this was "i thought i smoked you off the lights"  admitted liability. and wrote down his details as i was more concerned about the mrs and baby. gave them to us then left. After we'd had the mrs checked out. (ok luckily enough) i realised he didn't leave his insurance details just contact details.

So the mrs rung him and he was rude, saying he didn't cause any damage, like you obviously wouldn't driving into the side of someone at circa 30-40 mph. and that he wanted quotes in the post for the repair (fair enough) and photos of the damage (fair even though he looked at it.)

thing is the damage isn't that bad but, for the fact he was rude to the good lady on the phone about the price of the repair work (just under 300 quid) Should i be prepared to let him pay cash for the work, go through an accident management company or let our insurance sort it out?

also anyone reccomend a good body shop in bristol? anyone had work done by surecar? or any other ideas?

a kind one who might spray my valances at the same time would be nice

I'd threaten to take his details to the police if he doesn't play ball.  Leaving the scene of an accident is serious enough.

i agree with the above!
if its 100% his fault then  take him through insurance!!
glad your mrs is ok!!

personally people like that should be paying the ridiculous insurance premiums!!!
a7 is right, he left the scene of an accident without leaving all his details, so as he has been so rude threaten him with the police!

Believe me its a dead ringer for you! Even says something stupid!

Don't threaten with the police, do it mate, take it straight to them. And make it an insurance claim. If you can live with the car being as it is, assuming the insurance won't write it off, then you can probably get more out of the insurance company than what it would actually cost to repair (I know that's the wrong way of thinking, I'm sorry, I'm just sick of drivers like this causing me (a young driver) premiums to go up. Driving a Fiat Multipla full of kids and retorting with a comment such as "I thought I smoked you off the line" for a start is reason enough to try everything in your power to get this twit off the road. And the fact that he was rude to your lady, pregnant or not (glad she's ok mate) is even more reason. Phone the police up, tell him you had to force him to pull over before being able to get details. That is classed as a hit and run mate, serious offence. Only thing is, find out that you won't get done for leaving the scene (which I doubt as he already had) and that you were within your rights to get him to pull over (if you didn't try and force him off the road, which i doubt you would with a pregnant lady in the car), you should be fine :D good luck mate

we've spoken to the police already, they didn't mention the hit and run angle.  :smug

i wouldn't say i forced him off the road. i'd say i minimised his options on where he could stop

she's already started proceedings with the insurance, tells me after
