id say the poverty spec mk3's were more valuable than the 8v purely because people who cant afford to insure a real gti(16v) buy a 1.4/1.6 and anyone who can insure an 8v will have either more money to spend and want a better car than the 8v or want the 8v as a cheap runaround that isnt completly gutless..

I bought mine cos it looked good, and admittedly as it was also a not too gutless run around.

anyhow, If you can afford to spend that much money on a 1.4, then you could also afford to buy a much cheaper gti and insure it. swings and roundabouts.

err not true... insurance alone can be over 2k for younger drivers even for an 8v..

It will sell for double. Hugely desireable car is the 1.4. Much faster than the 8v,16v and vr6 hence all them bids...

LOL, agree about the demand for a 1.4, because it's economical and cheap to insure, but you can't compare that crap to a GTI/VR6 in terms of performance

And in regards of cars going for different prices on eBay, there are lots of factors that influence the final bid, i.e. pics, the seller, the description, etc.

My Golf mk3 1.8 SE is FOR SALE - Jetex exhaust + Jamex coilies & More...Only £550! More info here > http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=161711.0

My 1.6 did a good job of keeping up with a 2.0 GTI :)

theirs not much demand for a 1.4

much more demand for a 8v

the price is a joke

simples

and joe, my 8v kept up my 16v no problem, was more in 3rd with the valver tho

was messing with a Vr the other night in 2nd gear and i was on his bumper till he gave up

sometimes its down to the driver, what can make a car faster... think about it

Fair point dude I am a pretty good driver, I know where the power 'band' is (if you like) so I know when to change gear etc

A lot of people in town don't even know where their gears are. I watched some girl try and pull away in 4th gear the other night!

with the money you would save on the price of that red thing you could buy a gti and insure it, overall at the same price  as buying the red one and having slightly cheeper insurance

as he says, swings and roundabouts

@ JOE, thats just it matey, if you know the car well you are at an advantage, you even more so as u have had a few mk3's, its a good thing,:-)
