Hi guys I'm buying a Vr6 and after seeing one on thottle bodies in PVW this month I was wondering if anyone has got or ever herd of one on bike carbs.
I have looked around but cant really find anything about it. Theres plenty of info about throttle bodies but I'l be a bit on the skint side once I've bourght the car so was hoping to do this on a bit of a budget!

Any ideas and pointers in the right direction would be great!

What are you trying to achieve?
Noise?
Or getting more air in to make more power?

Basically, the standard manifold etc isn't restrictive...the head/cams are.
Even with 3mm bigger inlet/2mm bigger exhaust valves and Schrisk 268 cams, on a 2.9, the manifold (2.9) still isn't restrictive...
So if you can make 225-230 BHP and it's not holding you back....fitting bike carbs isn't going to give you anything except lots of noise and huge headache making it all work.

You can go to 276 cams with 11.5mm lift, still on hydraulic lifters, and with the biggest valves you can fit in the head (3mm in/2mm ex) and with a modified 2.9 TB still run the standard 2.9 inlet manifold and not be strangled by it.

If you are going BV Head and came with more duration than 268 and more lift than 11.4/11.5mm in order to 'need' the extra air, then you are already in big budget territory!

Personally, I'd not even think about it...if your engine doesn't need the air, leave the injection system alone.

If you want a reasonable gain, cheaply, fit a 2.9 upper inlet manifold (bigger plenum) and a 2.9 TB (if your car is OBD 1 and can take the 2.9 TB).

At no point would I even consider carbs...

Reducing my Golf count by the week....

as your 'buying one' , wait till youve got it , see how much you like it as is, how much juice it uses etc before you even think to tune it, if your skinting yourself buying one your going to spend a good wedge per week for fuel and up keep, so id enjoy what youve brought and work out how much its going to cost to run before you start toying with the idea of tuning one, ive had a fair few of them, there cracking cars, sound great and go well , but they are thirsty and i think if its a standard one youd be better of sorting suspension and brakes before making it go any faster than it already does as if on a standard set up therenot the best handling or braking car!

not knocking what your thinking of, it wont be cheap and there are better options already mentioned above that would be better than carbs, just for now , love the noise and sort the running gear first

Thanks for the quick responce fellas! Some people are really on the ball tonight!

The brakes and suspension will definatley be the first things to be done. After that all the head work is next. The noise would be great though!
You end up with these kinda ideas when you've got a mate with an integra who keeps going on about how much noise and how fast his car is. So really he's the target!

If an Integra (Type-R?) is your benchmark...then suspension tuning, upgrading brakes and engine tuning are not going to be anywhere near budget!
And you'll still end up slower point to point!

Starting at the beginning...brakes, suspension and mild tuning all come before head work, better gearing, light flywheel etc...then cams...then, and only then, start to think about binning the standard injection ststem.

Yeh it's a type R and I know it's never going to be as fast as that without a serious amount of work!(well out of my budget) It would just be nice to give him a bit of a scare and bring him down off his high horse a bit that's all.
O yeh I will always do the mild tuning things first like decent induction kit, lightend fly wheel an stuff like that! I didn't intend to bolt bike carbs straght on duna worry about that. I just thourght it would be a bit differant that's all.

Dunt worry I'm pretty sure il still do it maybe just for the noise cause it would sound nuts! Once the money situation improves and I can afford some proper work it should well happen!
