Question on caster
« on: 20 January 2010, 14:15 »
Hi.
To cut a long story short. I recently crashed my GTI in to a kurb and ended up having both wishbones and the front right wheel baring changed. Trouble is now, the caster of both wheel is out of spec (to far back by about 0.8 degrees). Dealer says this isn't an issue providing there both similar which they are but I'm concerned it may have an impact on ware on the rest of the car (i.e. drive shafts etc). Does anyone known if out of spec caster is an issue?

Hi Mate,

0.8 degrees of castor is well within tolerances, as long as camber and toe are correct then you wont have any issues. Our track cars will often run 3-5 degrees of castor depending on track type and/or conditions with no issues.

Keep an eye on tyre wear, castor shouldnt affect it greatly, if at all but on accident damaged cars it can show up any other issues which may net have been first diagnosed.

Hope this helps,

PDT
