What size is the thread on the mk3 gear stick?
« on: 19 January 2010, 23:14 »
I'm gonna cut down my gearstick down and I want to thread the shaft further down so as not to have to resort to gluing the knob back on.
Whay size thresd is it? Thought it was M12 but it's slighty finer pitch than that.
Cheers

Another option is to use a Mark 4 knob and gaitor....no thread required as they have a push on clip.

so if youve got a ruler measure it, itll be metric prob just a fine pitched one, standard metric coarse thread is 12x1.75 and the standard fine pitch is 12x1.25, so there should be 10 threads in a 12.5 mm long section.

It was late and I was too lazy to go measure!
Anyway, job done. It's M12x1.5 which is metric fine pitch.However,1.75 is near enough and the knob is plastic so threads on fine.Think M12x1.25 is sparkplug size?
Threaded,cut and refitted!

i was just going by my zeus reference book which has the most common standards but yeh there are usually 2 or 3 options of pitch for the fine ones
