VW screenwash - just an old Wives' tale.....

Well, I'm not usually one to buy the "bubble for the spirit level", but I humored my curiosity with this rumor about the VW screenwash etc... About the fact that it doesn't clog up your jets etc.

Well B0LL0CKS. It's nothing more than an old wives' tale.

I've put in this VW stuff, and within a week, the jets are totally clogged.

Needless to say, I'm just unclogging them in hot water right now.

I will then go back to regular screen wash.

I use carplan all the time for the screenwash and it has NEVER clogged in nearly 3 years.

I only use the VAG stuff in both the GTI and SWMBO'd A3...

Both cars have been ok and they worked especially well during the cold snap?

I used vw screenwash on a long journey through the highlands over xmas, even at -16 it didn't freeze.  On the way back I used some other stuff from a garage and it was frozen at -7. 

I quite accept that most other brands won't block the jets but in my experiece the VW stuff is pretty damn good.  Relatively cheap and nice smelling to boot!

I agree here, never used VAG stuff before and always used to end up with frozen / blocked jets when the temps dropped. Spotted the -17deg bit on the bottle the other morning when I used up the remainder of the bottle - impressive stuff!

in 70,000 miles of driving, all I've ever used is either sainsbury's or halfords screen wash (ie the really cheap stuff).  The halfords stuff smeers a bit but, either way, neither of them have ever caused the jets to block or freeze.

........same here carplan or the like for me & never had any trouble.

I use Halfrauds premium stuff (the pinky coloured stuff) and no problems with clogging or freezing in the recent weather.

halfords stuff too. In the light blue plastic container with black lid. Been using it since the car was new (18months) and no problems yet. It's the green stuff.
