Just wanted to update all.

I have now applied for a quote from Drive the deal and they are going to get back to me with estimated delivery times etc.... I'm sure it's going to be a long old wait either way.

I wondered what success you guys may have had with your local vw dealer matching or getting close to the offer made my drive the deal or any other broker?

Emailed the VW dealer and they offered to match the price if I ordered via there dealer.
Is this a good deal? I read a few posts the other day, with people saying that it was impossible to get a discount of the new GTI's?
Is a new model on the horizon and should I be waiting?

Also he specified that there would be a wait of approx. 12 weeks. But from the sound of things I presume this is going to be a lot longer.

Done this twice now - printed off a drivethedeal quotation, went into my local and said "if you can match it, I'll order from you as I'd rather deal with a local dealer but if you can't then you can't expect me to pay more for something I can get cheaper elsewhere".

On both occassions they squirmed, made excuses so I just left it there.  Low and behold, after a few days I get a call stating that they can match the deal.

Is this a good deal?

That's a lot of extras

IMHO the basic price is a good deal ... but for me, VW's options prices are just too much

ETTO but I would rather have a basic spec R for that money which already includes Xenons, 18" Alloys and a few other bits as basic spec.

Spec R was definitely considered, but I always liked the idea of a fully loaded car. Plus with the spec R the temptation to absolutely have the recaros in just pushed the price way to high.

So I guess based on a couple of the answers, there is now room to negotiate with your local dealers and get a discount. Thanks for the feed back guys. Can't wait to put my order in but worried about the actual lead time for delivery, especially after reading all the horror stories across the boards.

Hi all, here's another update.

Went back yesterday and tried to get them to come down on the price after providing a print out of the drive the deal quote. Apparently their group wont deal with them and VW are investigating them. The best he could do was £500 and a tank of fuel.

If i go ahead with the order next week, it won't be delivered until Aug, so i may as well wait until 1st sept for the new reg plate.

I'm in West Sussex, any ideas who i should go and see to see if they can give me a better deal?

not much help, but that is a crap offer.  500 quid off a 30k car specced to the hilt?!  also delivery in 6-7 months time?!!?!?!

I used dealdrivers last July and got around 10% off.  Offers were better back then, but you should get much better than 500 quid off.  PM me and I can share reference details to get an extra amount off for refferal.  I basically got an email quote from dealdrivers, accepted it, then they put me in touch with a nearby VW dealer and from there on I dealt directly with that VW dealer.  Reason why it is cheap is because you deal with the fleet dept of the dealer (so no pushy salesmen on a commission), but the whole experience was great.  Got a BW within a few days and they delivered early

Mk6 Golf GTI 5dr, DBP, Monza Shadow, Xenons, ACC, RCD510, Park Assist, Camera, Lux pack.... and now bluetooth.... and now DSG!

I did a quick call arround and got £1000 off via internet broker (just first quick call about. The local VW dealer said he didn't do price patching with internet as car brokers unreliable blah blah blah and asked me what I would want to make the deal... I agreed to go away and call him back.

Glad I did as then did a proper call arround the UK and ended up with way bigger discount, AND these were actually dealers (as basically the broker just got a small finders fee) so then all your discussions etc and deposit are direct to their dealer.

I ended up with about a 9% discount off the list price. I simply then phoned the local dealer and said I can get the car for price X with a delivery date of price X, and yes or no could he match it (pre the local dealer as they're not too far from me so would be a lot less hassle and could pick up the car) he went off for a quick chat to his manager instantly agreed to match it. Job done.

Short answer is you may get told no initially but just go in there armed with the prices you've obtained, aim for a min of a 5% discount and they should match it. If not then take your £24k elsewhere as no matter what they say yes you can get good deals form VW dealers via brokers who get finders fees.

I'm glad i posted now! I thought that deal offered was a bit naff!

I'm going to call around other dealerships this afternoon and see what kind of allocation they have and what deal they can do.

PM sent Keelaw, thanks!

Keep us posted. When i was ordering mine there wasn't much of a discount being offered either. But after visiting a few i managed to get a decent deal. Now with the price rises you should be looking at 5% minimum discount.
