Hi guys,

I'm new to forum and me and the better half own a 2001 GOLF GTI 1.8T and a 2002 GOLF GT TDI 130.

We have been having a problem with the GTI for a bit now and the 'exhaust emmision' warning light is on.

When starting the car some times it's like it cant breath, it struggles to idle and is really lumpy. Also sometimes when driving (usually when setting off) it's like the engine cant breath and when you put you foot down nothing happens, it just kangarros. All of a sudden it can breath again and off it goes.

It's not a turbo problem as the problems are all at low revs - it feels like an electronic issue as its intermitent

I hear its common for the air flow sensors to become faulty - are the symptons what i'm describing?

Thanks in advance

James

Could be. Have a look in the maintenance section about the MAF. Always worth unplugging it to see if it idles better.

Could also be a coil pack or two that has gone - also in the maintenance section I think. Both are pretty easy to sort out and shouldn't cost too much.

Just remember to buy genuine if it is one of these problems - cheaper parts don't seem to last as long.
