knocking noise
« on: 17 January 2010, 17:15 »
I bought an M reg golf gti 16v yesterday.  All is well except for a knocking noise.  Coming from the front of the car that happens when accelerating and (not as often) when slowing down. It does it when steering and going straight.  It doesn't happen all the time but it is quite frequent.  I can only hear it at low revs.
I've done some searches on here but can't seem to find anything with similar problems.

Could be a top mount.

HAd same problem on my old 16v. Turned out to be a worn engine mount.
