No electrical power at all
« on: 17 January 2010, 15:17 »
Alright guys,

I started my golf this morning for first time in a while and it ran fine but not long after I turned my headlight switch to on and uh engine dies, everything electrical is off even immobiliser lights and clock. I've tested the battery and it's fine even tested in my other car. Fuses are all okay as well from the front of the fusebox.

Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction?

Mucho appeciato

I had this exact problem only i was drivin at the time, Smoke was coming out under the dash aswell,
If its the same problem i had check on back of fuse box, And a big red power cable goes there which also goes up 2 the barrel,
If it is this you will see it all melted an stuff,
Mine was caused by the original wire that runs 2 stereo from light switch that dimmed the original stereo when lights were switched on,
No guts No glory,

But following from your reply once u fixed the cable did you find a new place for the stereo cable to connect to?

Cheers

That wire was not being used in my aftermarket stereo, So it was just at the back and it must of started earthing out on something, This caused the problem, with the fuse box, And i just snipped the end of an taped it up niice an neat,
No guts No glory,

Thanks for the help Beechy,

I went out tonight all guns blazing and five minutes later
... Fixed

turned out to be the dim-dip resistor either shorting out or it's knacked,
I removed this n everything works fine still as my mate updated the headlight looms before I boght it

Yeah it had totally melted the casin off the cable on mine, I dont know how it didnt manage 2 melt all the others, The only thing that doesnt work on mine now is the heater switches an switches by hazard light, dont light up when lights am on,
