To start with i've used the search option lol. Went out to the motor this morning went to start it and it started but then just madly idled for a second and then sort of 'bogged' down and died. I'm am a self confessed noob with a love of mk2 gti's. any help would be great, even more so if you could explain how to carry out certain checks?
The car is a 1990 spec 8v difi.
any help appreciated!

Does it turn over now? That's the first thing.

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn to the key ignition point. Also do all the eletrics on the dash come up as normal.

Yeah the dash ights come on and the headlights work and arnt faint at all. It makes like noises like its overly struggling to start up, sometimes it does but will have a very low idle and die.

starter motor? does it sound like its struggling but wants to start?
