Big bumper fog lights
« on: 17 January 2010, 10:35 »
Ok i fitted big bumpers on my car an wired fog lights up through a relay and put a litle switch inbetween my electric window switches,
On a original big bumper car where do you turn them on from, is it 2 do with the fog light switch on dash having 2 settings when you push it,
Can i wire mine up 2 this easily or not,

Yeah, its the two click switch, first click is front only, second is front and rear. As for wiring them up, i'm not sure but you may have to make some sort of loom up, but people more knowledgable than me will put you right.

I would have thought that there would be an output from the switch when it is in the first position. That could be used as a trigger to your new relay.

That's how I did the ones on my Passat anyhow.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

look in the engine bay, under the header tank. see the 2 pin plug there with a yellow and a brown wire? thats where the front fog wiring goes :)
just need to pop a relay in the right spot on your fusebox, job done. see the fusebox faq in ther maintenance section at the top o this forum :)

on fog light switch:
1st click = front fogs
2nd click = front + rear fogs

I havnt looked 4 that 2 pin plug yet, But i was thinkin this afternoon, It might be stupid but here goes,
If the big bumpers didnt appear until 90s, And my car is a 1988,
Would this plug still be there and why is it there, if there were no fog lights 2 wire upto until 90s,

That would make sence, but from what I can remember they all had the 2 position fog light switch.

I do seem to remember back in the day that quite a few cars had aftermarket fog lights, so maybe they were a dealer fit option?
