stopped by a dealer in Surrey this afternoon and they had a Scirocco R, but not the Golf. The Scirocco looked stunning in rising blue.

which dealer was this mate? Wouldn't mind going to have a closer look!

Martins in Camberley. It had 19's, leather and sat nav and if I was 25, in the market for a FWD hatchback and female, I'd buy it.

They don't look anything like that but similar in function I suppose. Like I said, they look like an afterthought. I know it's not in the same category cost wise but surely VW could have made a wider set of wings like the RS4 or M3 if the wheels require it? They're only 235's though, can't see the issue?

You see them in this close-up photo:

Not sure why they're required - perhaps to do with the tyre protuding out of the wheel arch.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN!
Golf R - 5 door - DSG - Rising Blue Metallic paint - 19" Gloss Black Talladegas - Leather - RNS 510 - Parking sensors - Cruise control

European construction and use regs regarding the amount the arch must protrude beyond the tyre.

in that case I wonder if they are removable because there is no way the 235's protrude from the arch.

Well, they had to be put on there, so I'm sure they'll come off - if not by undoing a couple of screws then with a stanley knife
