Brodit iPhone holer with Proclip for Golf V
« on: 16 January 2010, 20:39 »
Hi all

Im looking to buy this Brodit holder for my iphone......

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brodit-Adjustable-Holder-Apple-iPhone/dp/B001KWZT80/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263673438&sr=8-3

In order to use this I need a proclip. Hence I would like the proclip that goes onto the vent, like this.....

http://www.amazon.co.uk/DSL-Brodit-Volkswagen-Brodit-ProClip-Center/dp/B001LYJC58/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263673870&sr=8-1

Does anyone have this already?? Is it secure etc?
And more importantly, will it cause any damage to the vent in the long term?

Thanks in advance.

I've got the same holder and proclip installed in my Golf.  It is very easy to install.  The proclip just pops into place.  It is secured by some double sided sticky tape/foam at the top and bottom of the clip to stop it from slipping.  I only used the tape on the top bit as I thought it might be easier to get out when time comes to take it out.  It might even be possible to not use any tape.  It is made of plastic and will easily pop back out with a little squeeze.

The holder then screws into the proclip.  It is permanently attached.

I've had it since I bought my 3Gs in the summer and it has been brilliant.  The only problem is that the tilt and swivel can work loose if you keep swivelling it all the time e.g. from landscape to portrait.  Make sure the screw is in tight.  I don't tend to swivel it much so it does not cause me any problems.

Here's a crappy installation video from youtube:

I also bought a brodit move clip which allows you to remove the holder.   It can be seen in this video:

I think there is a mini move clip and a large one.  You will need the large one.  It is not necessary but I wanted the option of being able to remove the holder and hide it from view.

I used to have something similar and always found that it felt quite flimsy and could do damage to the air vent as it clips onto one of the slats.

I don't have any pics I'm afraid but the pictures from the Amazon site are pretty accurate.

Just found some pictures on the Internet.  It's in an American Jetta so it's left hand drive but you can get a good idea of what it will look like.  You could always flip the pictures in Photoshop or similar.

Thats perfect. Thanks Orca.
Just ordered it ;)
I need a holder where I can adjust it so that I can place my phone in it with the case intact, rather then having to take the case off every time Im in the car, and this seems to be one of the very few adjustable ones.

Cheers guys.

I bought one of these a few months back

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Black-Windscreen-Car-Mount-Holder-for-iphone-3G-S-3GS_W0QQitemZ130359940236QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneBatteries?hash=item1e5a0ed48c

Cheapish, but solid, fully adjustable, and does exactly what is says on the tin

I've used it often with the Iphone & Copilot Live no problems
