« on: 16 January 2010, 19:14 »
ok my golf has done nearly 86k and today the service like came on for a service in 2000 miles, so roughly 88k does this sound right? also if i take it to main stealers what would they do on an 88k service? not sure when cambelt and water pump was last done? would they do this on an 88k service or would it jsut be oil filters etc.?

If the cambelt and waterpump hasnt yet been done then id imagine they would do it, cant remember if the camblet is due at 60k or 80k.

To be honest if its done 80k and you arnt sure if its had a cambelt then id have it checked and if its not been done i would advise you have it changed,60k is about the norm for a new cambelt, but if your really fussy like i am,i have mine changed every 40k on my mk2 16v but really thats is bein fussy.

Would I save much buying the cambelt and water pump myself and getting them to fit it ?

cambelt and water pump should be done at 60k, usually about £220-£260 if u went to a mechanic.

plus your service light can come on whenever it depends when it was last serviced.

ah didnt realise it could come on anytime, just thought it might have been every 10 or 12k intervals. Wheres the best place for genuine on the net?
