I suspect this must be about the recent price rise, but the date post was after the rises, and it seems to suggest prices later on depending if the exchange rate stays bad.

Volkswagen prices will have to rise if the pound continues at its current low level against the euro, says the new group head of sales and marketing, Dr Christian Klingler.

'Up to now we are handling the strength of the Euro, but if the pound stays at a low level prices will rise,' said Klinger.

I like the following:
  • Weak pound could mean rises
New production strategy to protect volumes
End of scrappage will hit sales volumes

So, does this mean a £30k GTI at the end of the year lol

But saying that I read that an entry level Ford Focus price is now more than a BMW 1 series!

  bucket load
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

Focus prices are silly, but then you'd get over 17% discount through a broker.  BMW discounts no longer available through brokers.

But there is avery little in them at RRP - my TDI is nigh on £20k now, BMW 116d Sport ca £20k but 9% discount achieveable, new Astra to similar spec - £20.5k but £4k discount available, Focus £20.5k again ca.4k discount available. You can even get almost £3k off a Civic at the moment.

VW may well be controlling supply, and with Porsche in the fold they should have some good rule sets, but at the end of the day they operate huge factories which need volume to bring the cost base down. The current pricing of the new Polo (even without the available 8% discount), suggest VW still target , rather than unit margins.

  • Good things come to those who wait
1-series is an old model. I remember when Nissan 370Z was launched last year, 350Z were sold at £18000 brand new (RRP was £28k). Wait till the new BMW comes out.
GM and Ford are known for 2 things - heavy discounts and losing money...

VW have been flooding the market with cheap Golf (reported 9999 euro in some countries!) but at some point they will consolidate, stop expanding and increase the margins.
Golf GTI VI DSG - died on the road, resurrected, came back as zombi, sold
R - rising blue, 5-door, DSG, ACC, something something...

Must admit, made me chuckle when I read the comment re the BMW 1 series vs golf lol
Think this what car comment re the Exchange rate must have been talking about the last rise as was about the same time.

Glad I got my Mk6 order in now.
