Thin Stalks
« on: 14 January 2010, 17:21 »
Very basic question.

The car is a C Reg Mk2 GTi 8v (Now an ABF with original fusebox wired in) Compared to most stalks ive seen mine are really thin where these just standard on Pre 90's or pre 87?

Yeah, pre 87 I believe. Similar to the mk1 stalks which are really thin! I'm pretty sure it's a direct replacement to swap to 90 spec stalks or even mk3 stalks.. oh except the fact the hazard switch is in the wrong place so you'd have to rewire it over to the column if you wanted.

87-89 chunky stalks will fit straight on :)
post-90 are the same shape but different plugs on so require re-wiring, plus you have to fit the 90spec ign housing as bolt pattern different, which meansd you have to swap sdteering column tube or chop off the tab where the bolt goes thru.  No real need to go thru all that tho when 87-89 stlaks fit straight on ;)

Cheers for the advice brother & jonny :)

Tho one more question on the conversion they have left what looks like the bit where the stalks would plug into in the ECU connector storage box. Obviously there must be a one on the column else they just wouldn't work.

Going to be swaping to 87-89 stalks then as the wiper control arm is on it's way out.

Nope I will take a photo when I go out later.

It's like the ring bit that goes where the steering wheel goes on that the stalks connect into. For some reason I've got two of them, one used and attatched and another one just hanging loose. But as said will get a photo :)
