Bluefin..... Whats the latest??

I've been thinking of buying a Bluefin device for my car once it arrives but I don't know much about them and can't find much online. Some words of advice from any users would be great

Is the power gain really worth it??
What's the ups and downs of having it??
Can it do any harm??

Please do check if your engine guarantee stays valid I do not read much on it in this topic but a new car owner or a lease-chap can be hold responsible
and will be hold responsible...even if you are able to put the parameters back to normal there is still a reasonable risk involved since with a detailed read-out they can be informed that there has been mods in the system...

Ofcourse if you hold 5500 euro on your saving-account incase worstcase scenario happens.
You will probably be allright and nothing will happen but in life you never know....I have been on it for months to find out....and I would only do it legal....thru VW...

Have had it now for 2 months, no issues when installing or taking off. neat little device. Yes you can see the power gains as soon as its installed, as for fuel econemy thats a little bit of a laugh as I do spend a little more time hitting the pedal

Sadly no-one can fully answer your initial questions fully - lease companies in the main will not allow mods. Insurance companies do at times check the ECU parameters if a claim is big enough value and they can avoid a payout.

Even if superchips and other tuners can avoid the ecu flash count parameter, the checksum will probably be awry.

No-one has had any issues to date with their engines from the internet traffic i've seen- minor repairs will no doubt be honoured but if you were unluckly to need any bigger repairs (e.g turbo or engine out repairs expect to foot the bill yourself, or buy an aftermarket warranty).

No idea what an exchange engine costs from VW, but with diagnostics, stripping,fitting etc you could well be looking at £4-5k at dealer labour rates.

Depend how risk averse you are  at the end of the day.

I'm 47 with no other mods on the car at all, why would they suspect ? now if I had added flash wheels added different filters, changed the exhaust or any other boy racer things then I would expect them to check...

They will not check...but as I said before...I do not like to drive a new car with a risk involved of "getting caught".

To give you an example...my present MK V GTI has been in the garage for 4 days trying to solve a motor problem. ...now suppose they read my mod version out....and suppose...and suppose... an insurance- as well a lease company they both are even more skilled thieves than dealers .

I now hear/read also the stories when things went wrong. ...so not for me, since the legal way (VW and affected lease ) costs me 2800 euro...I nearly would be better of buying an "R"

1.  Yes, definitely

2.  Insurance may well take a hike (try Greenlight Insurance - very mod friendly). 
2.  Warranty may be affected if known by VW.
2.  Wheelspin much easier 

3.  Very little if you're sensible, on the Mk V a few DV's failed, clutch slip reports on some of the very highly tuned ones, 

As Erik says, do not risk not telling your insurance company......you stand to lose everything you own in a civil court case, if your insurance company refused to pay up on a big claim.

I do not want to preach but I do want to let everybody know what I found out and amazed at how little people know about the financial risks and what A worst case scenario can be. .....

In the end we are all grown ups loving fast cars so we are used to take "CALCULATED" risks.... .
