Boot opening badge with "white worm"
« on: 14 January 2010, 08:10 »
Hi Guys

I have read on here a lot about the 18" Monza's getting something called "white worm". As I only have the 17" wheels I haven’t had this problem, so I don’t know what it looks like exactly. However, my boot opening badge is one of the old flat ones, where the VW badge is flush with the black background, not the newer ones where the actually VW is raised above the black background. Anyway I think my boot opening badge might have a case of this white worm, as the silver parts have got some sort of white wiggly lines in them.

Is there anyway to get rid of it, if not is it easy to replace the boot opening badge?

Thanks in advance guys.

Only replacement will get rid of it.

If you want to replace the flat style with a raised style then the fittings are different and you'll need the entire lock mechanism.

I've replaced the lock mechanism when I swapped to a Carbon Fibre badge and it took about an hour to do and isn't hard to do. You do need a level of patience with removing and re-fitting clips though.

That one has the white worm as well (and is probably why he's getting rid of it)....

But yes it would fit.

Some guy called Hudry or something similar to that sold me his!
I would reccomend going for the newer 2 piece badge, look a lot better, and no chance of the whiteworm then.
They come up on the forum every now and again, I paid £30 for mine.

That you did, so is eBay the best place to look for one? Oh also any websites out there that have a walkthrough of how to change one would be a great help.

Only the usual ebay I'm afraid.

I have a walkthrough somewhere on here!
