Took it for a drive round WallyWorld and seemed OK so I tempted fate and drove a bit further, seems OK now after taking the peddle off and cleaning the contacts, opening it and cleaning the contacts inside too.

It only went and bloody well done it again on the way home, luckily I was 100 yards from my road so switched off and back on quickly, got to my road it done it again when slowing down, off/on quickly, turn in road and does it again!

Took the unit out again and wiped everything down with a dry tissue, opened it up to reveal the metal brushes and fiddled with them, put it back together and it worked fine on the 15mile round trip to my mums this evening.

Going to ring up the VW/Ford/Seat dealers around here tomorrow to see if they have the unit in stock.

f**king hell mate, I actually feel sorry for you, not to rub it in but you have the WORST luck I've ever known anyone to have with cars.
Golf MK3 1.8 auto and I didn't pay a grand for the "priveledge", auto windows all round and a AC. Oh and I've got a luggage net you pricks!

similar prob on my old 54 plate vaux combo van i sold my father in law, in the crap weather its just started ticking over at about 1500 rpm only with a couple of engine lights on.. i stripped the pedal unit and cleaned all the contacts etc then left the battery disconnected for a day and bingo all up and running..

hope its a simple fix.... all this dbw stuff is good in some ways , then in others is crap

I know this now  I think the auxiliary heater isn't working either so need to look into that, need to clear the vagcom codes first, and if that doesn't fix it then it might be the glow plug in the aux heater. (Aux heater being a seperate unit to warm the interior and coolant a bit quicker than the car would using only the engine's heat, not needed but good to have on those cold mornings  ) oh and a service inc belts etc...

Hallelujah! The TPS I ordered came today, I swapped it out this evening and the throttle feels SO much better, crisper and more responsive than the lazy old one. My old one is a revision A and this new one is a revision B.
