Mark at Cartronics has always been more than helpful - he's been there as long as I can remember ( 20 years I'd guess ). Mine is being fitted right now so I'll be able to give a review in a few days

What is keeping you, you posted 10 minutes ago, they will have had this fitted and on their second cup of tea by now
Let us know about the xtra features.

Damian, Perhaps you could ask your friend at Cartronics to make a video on this. It could lead to a lot more business coming his way?

Mac7, I got an answer from VW saying that they 'were working on it'. The more I thought about, the more I thought their response was a fudge, so I wrote again. You are, of course, right about making calls while driving. That's why voice control is so important. When it works, it is brilliant and safer than pressing buttons that distract you from the road ahead.
Golf R - almost on order - 5-door, DSG, Rising Blue, leather, 19" alloys, RNS510 with Dynaudio, ACC, Sunroof, Parking camera and sensors, luxury pack and cruise control.

Voice commands are ok when they work but are really tiring and frustrating when they don't.
You still have to touch the headunit of the RCD510 / RNS510 for loads of functions unfortunately.

^^^^^^^^It's so frustrating and TBH, defeats the whole point of the technology.

My last car had voice controlled stereo/bluetooth dialling, which no matter how slowly or clearly I spoke, could not understand '3', or '0', or sometimes '9', in my accent.

I had to put on a cockney accent any time I wanted those numbers... it sounded stupid, but it worked.

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

ah - so the last 10 years I've spent in London have clearly helped!   my vw kit understands all the voice commands really well.  it struggled a little when i had a cold, but i just had to speak up and it was fine.

you do feel a bit of a pillock tho talking to a car....

I have asked a my VW salesgay about this and to check it out, so that maybe we could get it verified.
Im afraid this could otherwise be "sales-talk"...

edit: Just got respons back and they could not confirm it but i still think it sounds likely...

Didn't you already get a response from VW saying they are working on a solution?

I'm not a policeman, but in my opinion drivers shouldn't really be making or taking calls whilst driving at all.[/quote]

I am also no copper...although there are suspicions
But making or taking calls fully voice controlled looks and proofs (for me) okay the last 4 years...mind you they do not invent stuff in the car to communicate if there is not a certain "wanting".....see it as progress in the making

I use the handsfree in the car sometimes to do business and when things get to complicated in the car I remind the caller that I have to pay extra attention to the driving...so I will ring back.....and nobody argues with that..... :smug:

I ordered also the RNS510 and am shocked to hear that VW does not have everything in perfect order for such a huge asking price....

Anyway the voice control is still a pain in the ass even in the most expensive car...so I most definitely will not use it in my new car...I am even to the point that I am ashamed of myself, in the car, while hearing myself repeating a completely different adress back from the speaker  :embarassed:  instead I will again go for the so-called fast buttons...and further for the truly important people I ring often enough..... I give them an A or AA or AAA in front of there last names...
I'LL BEAT YOU TO THE BBC STUDIO........
