You'd better point out the door bars in any of the Golf2s, cos I'm sure as hell they ain't in my 88F Syncro.

Maybe more soundproofing in the later cars and a little more kit, but not a huge amount.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I thought the early ones with quarter light didn't but the later ones did.

mine is 88F with no safety bars in the doors and no quarter lights either.
It also has no PAS that sucks a couple of horses of your engine, all the crank drives is the alternator off the vee belt.

What about the bigger wheels on the newer mk2s, mine still has the 185/60/14s smaller the better for acceleration. bigger wheels and tyres give a higher top end.

5 door models will be slightly heavier too.

I've got a 92J Digi with a side impact bar in each of the front doors. I heard they were fitted to 91 models onwards?

Also, there's some grey sand-filled plastic stuff under the usual sound proofing in the footwells, which is fairly heavy (perhaps about a kilo per pack, and there are two packs per footwell). The same stuff is used in the Mk3.

Same as, but it isnt standard. A mate of mine took me out in an early gti but I dunno if it was a valver or not, it was very smooth but it didnt really feel that quick. Was a nice pale green colour with the quarter lights. Wish I had been into my golfs back then cus it only had like 30k on it and was completely standard. He only wanted £800 quid n'all (He wasnt the smartest lad...bless)
