hi im new to vw's really i had a mk3 but the cambelt snapped 6 month ago an its still on my drive today...
anyway i got a saxo vtr then converted it to a vts, but now i want to get rid and get a mk2 gti but ive been looking at reviews solid 4 days and cant figure out which is best (obviously this is down to personal preference) but do some years/models have extras? different bodywork? better preformance? easier to live with etc, so any guideance and advice would be very helpfull, because now im just looking and looking and not coming up with a conclusion, its frying my brain. cheers

The million dollar question.... OK the £1500 question (what you can pay for a nice MK2).

Been asked a load of times.

The general consensus was 8v for a daily traffic beater.

Oh and can't you get the MK3 repaired? What engine is it? I'm wondering if it's a non-interference engine.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Why, when 16vs are better in every way?

Fastest = Early Small Bumper 16v
Most desribale = Oak Green Big Bumper 16v
Easiest to look after = All of them
Most economic = 88 Onwards Digifant 8v

Hope that helps!

Why did the belt snap? if it was through neglect because you didnt have the cash to get it changed or just couldnt be arsed then you stand no chance of looking after a 16v so id get the 8v it will be cheaper to fix.

If it's not very good, can I have it to play conkers with, please?  I'll collect .

As for which Golf2.  Buy any 90-spec Golf2 in good body condition, buy a 16V Golf3 in poor body condition and then fit the ABF code motor (2.0 16V) to the Golf2.

Excellent performance AND good economy when you're not thrashing it.  Oh and more civilised running, too.

You need to create hybrid vigor to get the best out of these cars.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

If it's for daily duties, I would buy the best condition, most looked after car that I could afford regardless of what engine or how many doors it has.

We have to remember that the youngest cars are nearing 20 years old, so it's a case of buying the best of what is still left unless you are prepared to put the work and money into one to prolong its life.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
