I converted my trim from pre-90 to 90-spec last year... Didn't come across any major problems, except where the side-skirts clip in under the lip of the sill.

Due to the previous absence of side-skirts, there was nothing to stop previous owners from jacking the car up at the wrong points on the sill, meaning that the lip was, in places, slightly bent where it shouldn't be.

Just use your common sense, and make sure the skirts are attached solidly by whatever means you choose!

I'm still a bit confused dude, pre-90 is the small bumper spec yeah?

the side strips on mine are really chunky but mines a 90

Judging by your photo yours are the thin side strips (theyll have a gti badgle on them) the chunky ones are much thicker.

Thanx mate, that answers my question,do you have an outline where the fat side strips used to be (bearing in mind my golf is white and the trims have been on there for 20 years)

There's a MASSIVE outline where my rubbing strips used to be.

If it's a 'show car' (bwahahahaha) then you're going to be into a respray down the length of both sides for this.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

that was/is my main worry,by show car I mean a car I go to shows in in the summer (it's not used in winter at all) unfortunatly even tho I'd love to build a proper show car funds don't allow it guess u have to live within ya means so it's not maybe what U would call a show car but it's a show car to me.

Depends really, my mates small bumper 8v was pristine under the strips once we took them off, just needed a clean. If the car has had paint before then look closely, often the strips are left on the car which would result in a nasty line where they used to be.
Oh and apart from the obvious, you need the sill fitting kit. this comes with a load of clips and fixings necessary to attach it all to the car.  I believe GSF sell these kits?

90 spec is a bit of a confusing term imho, as the wiring loom changes and washer bottle etc have all been seen on samll bumper cars too !

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

The sill trims for a G60 kit are the same as a 90 spec. Think i paid £35 a side for new ones from VW.
